Drip Systems One Small Water Bill

What is we know as drip irrigation is a combo of several types of low-volume, low-pressure water delivery systems.

The term the pros use for these systems is called microirrigation.

Each drip system is identified by a different style of emitter (part that drips the water on to your grow medium). These microirrigation systems originally started with farmers and commercial growers. In todays commercial market the necessity of water conservation is most important, drip irrigation is a great idea for the small water bill.

These systems deliver water at one drop at a time. Nothing like a garden sprinkler, this type of system is the only way to

maximize your water supply and get the most from your garden. The drip system keeps the plant's roots moist (but not
totally saturated) you will use less water than any conventional watering technique around. Other systems to consider

can be configured to mist deliver the nutrients and provide humidity.

Drip systems can be used everywhere

Made from flexible vinyl or polyethylene pipe, drip systems are commonly installed in the subsoil in commercial
agricultural applications. At home, you can "hide" the system with a layer of mulch. Leaving it on top of the ground is
fine, especially if you are troubled by mice or voles (they sometimes seem to think of the tubing as a snack). As smaller
plants mature and spread, the water supply lines are less visible. To help prevent clogging, make sure that any part that
emits water remains above ground.
Drip irrigation delivers water slowly immediately above, on or below the surface of the soil. This minimizes water loss
due to runoff, wind and evaporation. Your system can be operated during very windy periods frequently seen in
the mid west states.

Drip systems can be managed with an AC or battery powered controller. Automated landscape irrigation is an
advantage to many people with busy lifestyles.

Adaptable and changeable over time, drip systems can be easily expanded to irrigate additional plants if water is
available. Emitters can be simply exchanged or removed and emitter lines eliminated or repositioned. When plants are

removed or die, drip lines should be plugged.
